My History

Having served an engineering apprenticeship, I then spent a very enjoyable time contracted to a Ridley Scott film at Pinewood Studios. The film ‘Legend’ being finished work took me to London where I forged a career in sales. In 1997 I started my first business LA Displays, combining both my engineering and artistic skills this developed into LA Marketing & Design.

My Interests

Apart from playing guitar and singing, listening to music and riding motorcycles my time is taken up with being an Assistant Scout Leader, a non salaried Director of our local swimming pool and my family, who I love dearly.

My Dislikes

Dishonest people, sensationalised television sport, people who moan a lot, car drivers who do not keep a lookout for motorcyclists and those who think the world owes them a living.

History

In my early career, I enjoyed working for a number of years for HP, and I was easily drawn in to the corporate way of life.  Marrying a maverick, and having two fabulous and gorgeous children I then discovered I had a life!  This made me realise there was much more going on in the world than 9-5.  Not a natural entrepreneur, but married to one, I was inspired to set up in business just before the millennium, with Lionel, and to do it “our way”.

Likes

Social Media, the power of the internet and the challenges Marketing can bring. I love the diversity of clients we have, and the uniqueness of each business that walks through our door.  Amongst the business and the family, I enjoy a great read and get terrific inspiration from books on business, written by entrepreneurs who have been there, done it and got the T-shirt.  I learn a lot from this.  I also love (motor) bike days where we go out with a group of great friends.  We just ride and eat in good pubs! Great!

Dislikes

Dishonest people.  The way the media can sometimes distort the truth for a good story.
The nanny state that forces us to put up with silly warnings like “Contents may be hot!” on the side of coffee cups. The way women are portrayed in some glossy magazines.
People who defraud the state benefit system.

Dave Dunn – Web Programmer

Having bought my first computer (a Commodore 64 in 1983) without a tape deck (floppy disk drives were still prohibitively expensive and any type of data storage was an optional extra) I started programming. For quite some time programming for me was just a hobby and what I produced was the odd game and a lot of graphical experiments.

After getting an Atari ST in the late 80’s I eventually bought my first PC in 1994 with Windows 3.11 which introduced me to Visual Basic (ASP and VBScript are both derived from Visual Basic). Over the years I have learnt many programming languages and techniques and where the internet is concerned this has put me in good stead. The languages I have found most useful for the internet have been those based on the ECMA-262 standard like PHP, JavaScript and ActionScript (used in Flash).

Here is a list of software and languages I use for the internet, while my skills are not limited to this list (and new languages and software never take me long to learn) this is what I find most useful.
